Happy Changes
Do you remember this advent calendar I made last Christmas to sell in my Etsy shop?
And what better way to cheer yourself up than some homemade, home-ground, buttermilk whole wheat bread? I decided to start trying making our bread instead of buying it and it's actually working out pretty well. I had to find a recipe that made good sandwiches (I make Travis' lunch every day), and this one is the best so far. I make about two loaves a week. And what could be better than a hot slice of homemade bread with butter and homemade strawberry jam on it? It's pretty hard to beat.
An interesting note: it took us a long time to get to the point where Travis lets me make the bread for his sandwiches. All the homemade bread I've made up to this point was "fine for toast, but not for sandwiches." So I dug around the Internet and made several different recipes for him to try and we landed on this one. "It's the best so far," he says. I'll take it. It has some bread flour in it, but is mostly whole wheat flour. I don't know why, but I kind of consider it an honor that he eats my bread on his two sandwiches every day.

calanders,bread? you are so crafty and just a dang good mommy to boot:) I'm glad the beastly Pink eye is on it's way out and I'm amazed your other little chickies didn't get it. We have had that nastiness and everyone got it. I guess we just have all the luck:) Keep up the good work and just know your awesome. By the way I think both styles look great if I were in the market I would have a hard time choosing.
Way cute:) And I'm glad that Lucy is feeling better! I think I might need a piece of homemade bread now, too. Off I go to the kitchen! Thank goodness for Nathan and his domestic skills; I'd starve without him. Unless brownies are an acceptable form of nourishment.

Hey Sarah! Love your blog, it is great, you are amazing! As I was browsing around your blog, I saw this post about your bread. I make our bread too! I'll have to get this recipe and try it out. I have a WONDERFUL whole wheat bread recipe that you might like. I had just the same problem, bread not good enough for sandwiches, I'm proud to say I have been making "our" bread for over a year now, and eat it a lot, sandwiches and all! :) If you'd like the recipe, let me know, I'd love to pass it along.
