Fascination

I have been reading this book lately, because I saw it on the counter at Amelia's when I was there earlier this year (you know you've got to read it if 1) the cover has such a great picture of lettuce on it and 2) your health-conscious friend is reading it).
At any rate, I cannot put it down. I stay up late reading, when I should be getting some shut-eye to prepare for the night-time feedings of baby Miles.
I think having kids and having to feed those kids all day has made me really search for what we should be eating. Last night as I read that a baby born in 2001 has a 1 in 3 chance of developing diabetes in his/her lifetime, it was all I could do to keep myself in bed and not go downstairs and make some whole wheat bread. I don't know why, but I just wanted to make something nourishing and not overly processed for my kids.
Anyways, I love learning about nutrition and I hope that what I'm learning can translate into what I do. (And I know you shouldn't believe everything you read either).
I do know one thing: ever since I cut off Lucy from fruit snacks, she's been stealing the other kids' at the gym. So, what do I do: give her what she wants or let her steal what she wants?
Ethical dilemma. I'm stumped.

I love that book, and Michael pollan in general. Omnivore's dilemma is pretty good too. I give my kids raisins and cranberries instead of fruit snacks. They don't seem to mind.

Mmm. Another book to add to the list for this summer. I read an article about Omnivore's Dilemma several years ago in the New York Times, and was really interested, but this book sounds like even more up my alley!

And can I just say I was shocked and amazed at your half-marathon time. Holy Cow! I'm thinking about training for one this summer. Which one did you run?

Kjirsti, It was the Strongsville Spring Classic. I think we should run it next year! I want to read Omnivores Dilemma now too. On another note, my aunt Gaylene broke her leg in two places while skiing last week. She has lots of screws and plates in her leg. Poor gal.

Actually, Nathan and I have decided to start eating more healthy foods and we came to your blog for ideas:) You always have such yummy and healthy things posted and I needed ideas since all I know how to make is hamburgers and fried okra. And while we are trying to eat more healthy, I'm not giving up my fried okra--I'm from the south and giving up okra just can't be expected!
