Keeping It In the Family

I was inspired by NieNie's post about her family dinner celebrating her kid's going back to school. I tend to do the decorating and celebrating for other people's important events (like baby showers and birthdays), but rarely make the effort to make a special effort within my own family.

So, this month we celebrated three things: staying within our monthly food budget, Travis passing his hardest class of the semester, and Finn being potty trained.

I made little notes out of old file cards telling each person something special about them. And, I got out the little silverware for kids that my Mom gave me this Summer. Finn even got his own cloth napkin--- his size!

The menu:

Portobello and fontina grilled cheese sandwiches

Roasted eggplant spread with crackers

Hand-snapped green beans

And for dessert?

Strawberry shortcake with whipped cream (the real deal, no substitutes!)

Lucy's little necklace piece that Finn wanted at the table.

This dinner looks so sweet and delicious Sarah. And that real deal whipped cream....yummy!

Do your plates say "Votes for Women" on them? I love it! After seeing it, immediately my mind was filled with Mrs. Banks and Katee Nana singing and dancing around the house for votes for women in Mary Poppins. Love it!

Fun times at the Schuller house! I hope your family appreciated. Well, even if they didn't you had fun and took a picture. Can't wait to come visit!
